Senate District 1
First Senatorial District
Hawai‘i Island’s First Senatorial District
The First Senatorial District geographically encompasses a large part of the East and North sides of the Big Island. The district includes large swaths of primarily agricultural areas as well as the commercial centers of Waimea and Hilo, the latter of which benefits greatly from the presence of two institutions of higher education–Hawai‘i Community College and the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo.
The challenges facing the Big Island and the First District are many, but policy makers at all levels are focused on improving infrastructure, diversifying agricutlure, enhancing workforce capacity, enlarging the high technology sector, supporting small businesses and improving sustainability.
Politcal Boundaries
The First Senatorial District encompasses the entire Second and portions of the First, Third, and Seventh Representative Districts. Note: the polling places have changed since 2008, for more an updated listing of 2010 polling places: Office of Elections 2010 Polling Places.
