North Hawaiʻi Education & Research Center – Expansion Update – 10/31/10
Nov 3rd, 2010 | By Website Admin | Category: MediaThe renovation and expansion of the North Hawai‘i Education & Research Center (NHERC) is nearing completion. Repair work and asbestos removal and abatement on the roof of Phase 1 (the old Honoka‘a hospital) was completed over the summer. Subsequently, the university installed a photovoltaic system on the roof to increase energy efficiency and recently signed an interconnection agreement application with HELCO.
Minor corrective work is nearly finished on Phase 2B at NHERC. Work included enclosing the bottom floor of Phase 2, the addition of a new parking lot and elevators. Low bids on the allocated $2.9 million project allowed for an additional pavilion on the Makai-Waipio side of the property and will provide an additional resource resource for use at the facility. Construction for the pavilion should begin by the end of the year.
