Representative Mark Nakashima reports that HDOT officials will meet with the Rural South Hilo Community Association in regards to the Papa‘ikou Traffic Safety Project. State Traffic Engineer Alvin Takeshita and Hawai‘i District Engineer Stan Tamura will present an updated design plan for the Papa‘ikou highway corridor to the community on Thursday, October 7 at 6:45 p.m. at the Kalanianaole School cafeteria.

The project entails restriping, lane, shoulder and other improvements throughout the Papa‘ikou corridor instead of one traffic signal at the Pinky’s intersection. The legislature appropriated additional monies in 2009 to cover the increased costs of the project and during the 2010 session prevented the lapse of the funding.
