Rep. Nakashima & Sen. Dwight Takamine report that the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funded renovation of Hale Hauoli in Honoka‘a will commence soon. Isemoto Contracting will renovate all forty units  and the community center in the 10 buildings that comprise Hale Hauoli.

The Honoka‘a Seniors Club meets in the community building that also houses Hawai‘i County’s Elderly Activities Division’s subdivisions Coordinated Services for the Elderly and Hawai‘i County Nutrition Program.

Residents will be relocated on site and rotated through refurbished studios during the project. The renovations will start this October and Isemoto is working with the subcontractors to speed up the work and minimize the length of the project–Isemoto is attempting to complete the work in six months or less.

The renovations will consist of replacing flooring, updating kitchens, baths, plumbing, ventilation, electric wiring and exterior lighting; re-roofing, repainting interiors and exteriors, and the conversion of four units to ADA compliance standards.

“Having ARRA money to pay for this project is a real blessing for our senior and disabled population in Hamakua,” said Rep. Nakashima, who continued, “Because without the ARRA money the Hawai‘i Public Housing Authority wouldn’t have the ability to undertake such a major renovation of Hale Hauoli at this time.”
